Last week, His Excellency Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta paid us Vegans a visit (cobwebs were beginning to accumulate at the State House). Vegans turned up in large numbers, young and old males and females, to see and hear what their leader had to say. The crowd received him and his deputy well and they applauded and cheered when he spoke. The same cannot be said about our good Governor, Kinuthia Mbugua. He was literally jeered off the stage and the good citizens made it clear that come 2017 their votes won’t be his.
One question begs to be asked after that regrettable incident; Is there nothing good that Kinuthia has done for his people?
Wifi.
This is perhaps the one good thing youths and internet lovers at large have something to thank him for. All around town there are numerous ‘bilawaya’ and ‘liquify’ hotspots and people can be seen surfing away in their smartphones, tablets and laptops.
Decongested town.
This is a sweet-sour topic. When he was still relatively new in office, the governor set on a mission to get rid of hawkers along Kenyatta avenue and other parts of town. This didn’t sit well with them and they even took to the streets to demonstrate.
The governor was not heartless and they were all relocated in the numerous stalls around town. This move decongested the town and people now have plenty of space to move around.
Stages for motorcycle operators.
Boda boda operators or ‘watu wa nduthi’ as we commonly refer to them have benefited from the several stages scattered around and without town. They are sheltered hence making it easier for them during the very hot days and the rainy ones too.
True, there are areas where he has fallen short but in some he deserves praise. As the Swahili put it, ‘Mgala muue na haki mmpe’.
