Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui's has strongly condemned the killing of a herder in Marula Farm and called for speedy investigations into the matter.
On Sunday, the Gilgil community lost a young man who was shot while grazing his cattle around Marula farm.
According to Governor Kinyanjui, the herder, Nelson Mandela Saipon like many other pastrolists, was driven by the need to find pasture for his cattle.
"While the matter is under investigation by the police, we must condemn the reckless use of guns against the unarmed citizen. No one has the right to take the life of another. Appropriate action could have been taken within applicable laws if there was any contravention of the law. We urge the security agents to speed up their investigation and bring the perpetrator to book," Kinyanjui said.
Kinyanjui added that while there is right to private property, the same must be balanced with the need to protect the sanctity of human life.
"We hope this will be the last we hear of guns turned on unarmed herders.Rest in Peace Saipon," he said.
