Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has said plans to revive pyrethrum growing in 18 counties will succeed Kenya will regain its lost international market.

Kinyanjui said Kenya in the past years was able to produce 80 percent of pyrethrum but now produces only 1 percent.

The governor said there is need to jump start the stalled process by unlocking the bottlenecks along the value chain.

“We have in the past made a false start but it is time we put the bad beginning aside and give farmers renewed hope to venture into the growing of the neglected crop,” he said.

He added that a call center where pyrethrum and other farmers will have their questions answered in real time will be set up.

Kinyanjui was speaking at Sarova Woodlands hotel in Nakuru town during a meeting with stakeholders on Wednesday.
