Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has been ordered to reinstate all the 115 county workers who he sent on compulsory leave when he was sworn into office.

Judge Stephen Radido at Nakuru Employment and Labor relations court on Thursday said the decision to send the workers on compulsory leave was unconstitutional and legal procedures were not followed.

Radido said the workers who filed a case in court on August 31 to oppose their dismissal should resume work and get access to their work stations.

"Removal of the workers from office was unconstitutional and unfair. The workers are hereby advised to resume work," Radido ruled.

Kinyanjui sent the workers home on grounds that the county wage bill was too high at Sh5.5 billion.

The high wage bill came due to many employees in the county as some were inherited from the defunct municipal council and national government.

County secretary Benjamin Njoroge said legal process was followed, claims judge Radido dismissed arguing that the county failed to tell the contractual basis used to send the workers on leave.
