This follows a recent internal audit indicating that only 24 percent of the pending bills are genuine, this translating to Sh722 million out of the Sh3  billion owed to suppliers and contractors.

According to Kinyanjui, the questionable debts are aimed at defrauding the public.

He said his office is aware that a huge chunk of the suspicious bills are as a result of fictitious deliveries and inflated prices.

''Such acts of inflated bills, fictitious deliveries and conflict of interests will not be tolerated by my administration,'' he is quoted by the nation.

He added that the move is also aimed at eradicating fraud in the county, stressing on the need to instill trust between the county and its business partners.

''This is critical to the restoration of confidence among our important contractors and suppliers,'' the county boss further said.

According to the audit, which covers the tail end of the 2016/2017 Financial Year, departments of Environment, Water and Natural Resources and Public Works were the most hit, with the Environment sector recording 4.3 million courtesy of price inflation.
