Potato growers in Nakuru county have asked Governor Lee Kinyanjui to set up a processing factory in the region.
The farmers led by Joseph Towett said they asked the county government to help them through provision of high quality seeds, mechanization of potato farming as well as value addition.
"The project will boost the economy since products will be processed and sold locally. We urge the county leadership to set up the factory," said Towett.
He added that if the factory is set up in the region, employment opportunities will be created also to help jobless youths.
"The factory will not only be a benefit to us farmers but also will create employment vacancies for the jobless youths in the county," he said.
The growers said they voted for Kinyanjui during the August 8 polls and it is now his turn to deliver.
