Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has cautioned drivers against the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, as a big number of Kenyans head back to upcountry for the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Speaking Thursday, the county boss urged drivers, especially those using personal vehicles, headed towards the Western and North Rift parts of the nation, via the county, to seek alternatives.

The road has been benchmarked for improvisation, especially at the Salgaa blackspot area stretching from Sobea to the Total Junction, which has been notorious for accidents.

According to Kinyanjui, the construction will result to congestion urging drivers to avoid the same.

''While the national government is planning to undertake immediate corrective changes to make Salgaa-Sachang'wan route safe, we wish to advise road users of private motor vehicles to consider using alternative routes to reach their destinations,'' he said.

''Motorists proceeding to Kisumu and Kericho routes can use the Njoro turn off through Elburgon to Molo and those destined to Eldoret and Webuye can use the Ravine-Maji Mazuri route,'' he advised.

He said that the same will also play a big role in reducing the number of carnages in the dangerous road that has so far claimed a big number of lives.

''This will help to us the congestion that is often experienced during festive season on the section of the road and in so doing, we may save some lives,'' he added.
