Addressing media in his office on Monday when he was paid a courtesy call by a team from Ministry of Agriculture spearheading the National  Food and Nutrition Security campaigns under the big 4 agenda, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui said there is a huge potential in potato farming.

He said his government will work closely with the Ministry of Agriculture to support the sector.

This, he said, will be achieved through ensuring the right seeds, teaching farmers the best practice and then help in marketing.

“As a potato growing county we believe there is a huge potential in developing the crop and therefore we believe that if we ensure right seeds, to teaching farmers the best practice and then help in marketing we shall be able to revamp the potato farming,” said Kinyanjui.

Governor Kinyanjui added that the county government will also work to ensure farmers are not exploited by middlemen when it comes to the packaging of the potatoes.

“The issue of packaging is a big challenge and the county government is going to work to it to ensure that farmers are not exploited by the middlemen,” he said.
