Garissa Governor Ali Bunow Korane has hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta for nominating Noordin Mohamed Haji as the next Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Korane says that Haji is a competent and professional individual who will spearhead the prosecution mandate if approved by Parliament.
“The nomination of Haji as the next DPP is laudable and we have confidence in his track record and he will deliver at the helm of the prosecution office,” Governor Korane said.
Speaking to journalists at his office in Garissa on Thursday, Korane said that Haji’s nomination is a blessing to the Somali and Muslim community.
He observed that the community had been sidelined in terms of top public appointments.
President Kenyatta on Tuesday forwarded Haji’s name to Parliament for vetting as the next DPP.
The president picked Haji from three names that had been forwarded to him by the Selection Panel that conducted the interviews for the DPP.
The selection panel chard by Elizabeth Muli intervened 10 candidates and settled on lawyer Lucy Kambuni, Noordin Haji, and Jacob Ondari.
If approved, Haji who is Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji’s son will serve an eight-year non-renewable term as the DPP.
The DPP position was left vacant after the then holder Keriako Tobiko resigned and later appointed as Environment cabinet Secretary.
Political pundits have welcomed Haji’s nomination as DPP, saying he has the experience to spearhead the war against corruption, terrorism and other crime as per the mandate of the DPP.
