Garissa Governor Ali Korane on Thursday conducted an impromptu visit at the Garissa Provisional Referral Hospital in a move that caught most of the patients and staff at the facility of guard.
Governor Korane came face to face with the sorry state of the county’s referral hospital as he made his surprise visit to assess the effectiveness of service delivery to patients at the institution.
The governor together with his deputy governor also made a surprise visit at the Garissa Water and Sewerage Company (GAWASCO) saying that his administration will ensure the residents receive clean and safe water.
“Based on the prevailing challenges I observed, my administration will initiate measures to tackle the poor service delivery in water and health departments that is in total disregard to our devolution goals. We will ensure affordable quality healthcare services and clean and safe water to all,” said Mr Korane on his official Facebook page.
Governor Korane during his visit shared his displeasure on the state of the facility that remains with minimal activities following the 76 days of the ongoing nurses’ strike.
He said that he will engage the nurses who are on strike to broker a deal adding that the strike has left facilities in the county grappling with severe staff shortages.
“In respect to our observation of management laxity during the visit, my administration will undertake an overhaul in the hospital management in a bid to enhance service delivery and also engage the nurses union in a bid to broker a deal and end the strike,” said the governor.
