Garissa Governor Ali Korane has vowed to spearhead the war against youth radicalization and terrorism.
Korane says that terrorists and radicalization agents will have no room to operate during his reign.
Addressing journalists at his office in Garissa on Wednesday, Korane vowed to hunt down terror agents to their hideouts.
The Jubilee governor said that terrorism has slowed down economic growth in Garissa. “I will be on the front-line in war against terrorism and radicalization and ensure that Garissa is the safest county in the country,” he said as quoted by the People Daily.
Korane said that innocent lives have been lost through acts of terrorism in the county. He urged residents to be vigilant and collaborate with law enforcement agencies to tame terrorism that has crippled the county.
Korane asked the national government to boost surveillance and ensure that terror insurgents are eliminated.
He appealed to religious leaders and community elders to speak against radicalization. The newly elected Jubilee governor said that radicalization among young people is to blame for rising terrorism acts.
Garissa is among North eastern counties that have in the past experienced a spate of terror related attacks from the Al-Shabaab militia group.
The County (Garissa) is currently under a dusk to dawn curfew that aimed at ensuring that security is improved and terrorists kept at bay.
