Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku says KWS has failed to control the human-wildlife conflict.

This comes after herders were allegedly attacked by elephants.

According to Governor Joseph Lenku, 37 people have lost their lives in the last year after attacks from these animals.

He is now pointing an accusing finger at the Kenya Wildlife Services for failing to intervene and find a long-lasting solution.

“The conflict between people and wildlife has been there for long, and KWS has failed to ensure that the existence of the two is improved,” he said when he spoke to journalists.

“Since the law was passed in 2013 to compensate all those affected by the conflict, no single coin has been given to Kajiado residents,” he added.

He further said he would push for people, who were affected to be paid in good time by the KWS,

The county boss further took the opportunity to thank the president for appointing ‘one of their own’ into the cabinet that was announced two weeks ago.

Keriako Tobiko was named in the first batch of secretaries by President Kenyatta, after tendering his resignation as the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“We do not take it for granted that Tobiko was named in the cabinet secretary,” he added.
