Only months after the reelection of president Uhuru Kenyatta, the party is focusing on the next election.

Already, the party is clear on its presidential candidate who is Deputy President William Samoei Ruto.

The strategy now is to find a running mate. Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui is among those being considered for the position according to well-placed sources who spoke to Saturday Nation.

An ally of Kinyanjui, who spoke on condition of anonymity, however, said she has not heard of her boss going for a national seat in 2022.

"I think he wants a legacy that can guarantee him a second term when that time comes," she said.

Others are former Meru Governor Peter Munya, senator Kindiki Kithure, Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria as well as Kirinyaga county boss Anne Mumbi Waiguru.

Ruto is, however, said to be thinking of plucking a DP outside the Gema vote block.
