Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has faulted the move by Cotu boss Francis Atwoli to crown Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi as the Luhya community spokesperson.
Speaking on Monday, Lusaka accused Atwoli of failing to engage other leaders in the process, arguing that a leader cannot be picked through a survey without the full support of the entire community.
“We cannot have a person who is chosen through research. Our community does not work like that. We need leaders who have the backing of the community through charisma,” Lusaka said as quoted by the Nation.
“Why should one belittle his status? He is a national leader and now has presidential ambitions; why does he want to concentrate on being a leader of one community?” he added.
Other leaders who have rubbished the crowning of Mudavadi include Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, Kakamega's Boni Khalwale and Water minister Eugene Wamalwa.
Mudavadi was unveiled as Luhya leader on Saturday last week at a ceremony held in Kakamega's Bukhungu Stadium.
