Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet have been asked to put in place appropriate measures that will ensure Kenyans who will participate in Thursday’s repeat election are fully protected.

This comes amid fears and allegations that the National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters might attempt to disrupt the exercise.

Speaking in Eldoret on Tuesday, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago said police should be deployed to polling stations across the country to guarantee a smooth election process.

"We as patriotic Kenyans want to wake up and go to vote on Thursday without any fears of being attacked and this is the day our security team needs to be on top of its game," said Mandago.

The vocal Jubilee governor insisted that election will go on as planned and asked residents to come out in large numbers and vote for their preferred candidate.

"If you are a supporter of Raila Odinga, Abduba Dida or any other candidate wake up very early in the morning and cast your vote but we know this is a Jubilee stronghold and President Uhuru Kenyatta will get almost all the votes,” he said.

Speaking during the Mashujaa day celebrations on Friday, Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan assured residents that there will be sufficient security across the county before, during and after the repeat poll.

Hassan issued a stern warning to anyone who would attempt to disrupt the election in the county.
