Nakuru based political activist Hezron Manyara has come out to strongly condemn the arrest and detention of veteran journalist and blogger Elijah Kinyanjui.
Manyara said the arrest was uncalled for saying that it was an infringement on his constitutional rights of expression.
Speaking Sunday, Manyara accused governor Kinuthia Mbugua of misusing his powers to intimidate his critics. He added that it was wrong for the governor to use his office and powers to influence the arrest of his critics.
"Its is wrong for the Governor to order arrests of bloggers and critics because these people are just doing their work as they should be,"said Manyara.
"The Governor should stop behaving as if he is still the AP commandant because there are laws and laws must be respected,"he added.
Manyara added that all political aspirants, civil society groups and church leaders will be meeting soon to chat a way forward for the county.
"We will be meeting soon as politician's, church leaders and the civil society to discuss issues affecting our county and give a way foward," he said.
He also thanked Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria, gubernatorial aspirant Eng Victor Ngatia and politician Sam Mburu for leading the push for Kinyanjui's release.
Kinyanjui was picked up by two CID officers on Saturday night in relation to a story he wrote which did not go down well with Governor Kinuthia Mbugua.
He was however released on Sunday morning.
