The group on Thursday demonstrated across the streets over graft allegations after Governor Kinuthia Mbugua met the Senate Committee on Finance to answer queries on public fund misappropriations according to the Auditor General’s Report.

On Monday, a civil society group, the Nakuru Peoples Accountability Forum (NPAF) stormed Mbugua’s office with summons for him to attend a public forum next Tuesday.

NPAF Chairman Simon Ole Nasieku, said the Auditor General’s report indicated violations of the principles of public finance management and hence the executive must account.

“Governor Kinuthia must attend the public forum on Tuesday next week failure to which we will demonstrate and seek legal redress on the matter,” Ole Nasieku said.

Auditor-General Edward Ouko report revealed that, Nakuru County government could have lost more than Sh500 million between 2013-2014 through fictitious claims and poor budgetary control. The protest momentarily turned chaotic after suspected criminals alleged to be hired by some county officials attacked demonstrators tearing down the placards.

According to former Nakuru County TNA Chairman Abdul Noor who led the demonstrators accused Nakuru OCPD and police of laxity and protecting goons.

“The graft in the county is alarming and if action will not be taken, the county is destined to collapse. We have Auditor General Report of the misuse of public fund and we need action,” he said.

He added that the demonstration was peaceful and aimed at taking a petition and names of corrupt officials mentioned in the report to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Some of the officials mentioned in the petition to the EACC South Rift Region include County Secretary Joseph Motari, Liason Officer Zipoorah Kimani, and Chief of Staff Raymond Komen.

The Governor’s Liason Officer Zipporah Kimani is alleged to have received Sh 1.1 million for research and another Sh362,675 as imprest.

“County secretary spent Sh50,000 on night out, Raymomd Komen Sh228,464 mileage allowances among other officials,” Noor said.

The petition and names of accused officials were received by EACC South Rift Deputy Director Gilbert Lukhoba and EACC Legal Officer George Oira. Lukhoba assured the leaders that EACC will scrutinise the documents carry independent investigations and issue a report.

“We are going to carry out our mandate and after investigations, we will inform you and issue out a report,” he said.
