Kisii county Governor James Ongwae and Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong’i attacked each other openly at a thanks giving ceremony.

Tong’i hit at Ongwae saying that he should be careful so that Kisii County do not go the ‘Narok way’ when he was giving his speech at St. Vincent Pastoral Center, for an event for the newly elevated Bishop to Kakamega Parish, Joseph Obanyi.

“Legislators have agreed to work with our governor for the development of our county. However, recent reports that some counties are spending more in payment of workforce than development, actually 70 percent to 30 percent in that respect is a worrying trend, and that is not the way forward for our county,” Tong’i said.

In a quick response, the Governor warned the MP that he can as well be re-called by his constituents if he cannot discharge his mandate effectively.

“You are worrying about me? Your constituents can also take you in a ‘Narok way’ if you cannot deliver to them,” he reacted but accepted his county is faced with myriad challenges in staffing.

“I accept that we are faced with overstaffing but my government is working on modalities and logistics towards solving the problem.”

Ongwae asked leaders to avoid dirty politics and instead give him enough time to deliver to residents.

He said politics from within his government, assembly and others from outside is thwarting his strides towards development.

On the other hand, Tong’i called upon the Omogusii community to consider unity and be in one either existing or form a new party, so that they cannot be left out in the sharing of the National cake.
