The Party of National Unity (PNU) presumptive leader Peter Munya says he will be running against Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential election.

This stand, he said, is the reason Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi has become his 'enemy' and drubbing him politically.

Speaking to the Standard, Munya said the reason he is sticking with PNU is because it captures the imagination of the dreams he has for Kenya.

Munya who has been discredited by Kiraitu on many occasions adds that the party is progressive and with a rich legacy.

The governor says he will be standing against DP Ruto for the presidency in 2022 and accuses Kiraitu and a few other leaders of trying to fold up APK without consulting or getting the mandate to do so from the people.

“It’s really sad but that’s how low we have sunk our democratic ideals to a point where it now looks normal to do such things.”

Munya said PNU is not merging as the National Executive Council (NEC) has rejected the marriage to become Jubilee Party.

Already, there are those who feel Munya has made the right decision while others deride his decision.

PNU’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) and the National Governing Council (NGC) meeting is scheduled for September 9, where new leaders will be elected.

Munya is running for the party leader position seeking to replace former President Mwai Kibaki who is still the party leader. He adds that he will use PNU to run against DP Ruto saying it is the party of the future.

“I will be running for (the) presidency in 2022 if God allows. I will be running against everyone who will run, including the DP. This is probably the reason the entire Jubilee brigade led by their hatchet-man in Meru, Senator Kiraitu Murungi, are against me. They do not seem to appreciate that we do not join politics to make anyone comfortable. And so, yes, if the DP is indeed running in 2022, I will most certainly and God-willing, be his competitor,” says Munya.

He dismissed Jubilee’s plan of governing until 2032 saying cannot be ruled by decrees.
