Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to use all means at his disposal to stop NASA’s plan to swear in Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka as the people’s president and deputy respectively.
In a briefing with journalists at his office on Friday, Mutua said that it will be a big blunder if Uhuru allows Raila to take oath as the people’s president on Tuesday next week.
Governor Mutua argues that Raila’s intention is using his swearing in to blackmail the Jubilee government and push for a share of the government.
He said that the only way to tame Raila is to prevent him from swearing himself and take stern legal action against him if he goes on to take the oath.
“President Kenyatta should not entertain Raila and Kalonzo’s swearing-in because these people mean no good for the country,” he told journalists.
Governor Mutua alleged that NASA’s agenda is to cause violence and make the country ungovernable.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party leader warned that the country is likely to stagnate economically if Raila goes on with the illegal swearing.
He claimed that already investors and foreign tourists are shy of visiting the country as a result of the heightened political temperatures being created by the opposition.
Governor Mutua pleaded with NASA supporters not to turn up for the illegal swearing in and instead pledge their support for President Kenyatta’s government.
Mutua also asked religious leaders to pray for the country and spearhead unity talks among Kenyans. He said that some politicians have succeeded in planting seeds of disunity that must be uprooted.
NASA plans to swear in Raila and Kalonzo on Tuesdays next week at Uhuru Park.
On Friday, the opposition said that it will swear in Raila and Kalonzo using August 8, 2017, presidential election results that it claims Raila won.
The government has termed the planned swearing-in illegal and highly treasonous.
