Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua was on Saturday booed and his motorcade pelted with stones during a campaign rally in Mavoko sub-county.
The irate mob accused the governor of sidelining the region during his tenure, cautioning him against seeking their support during the forthcoming general elections.
The residents further accused Mutua of aligning himself with the Jubilee adminstration, observing that the region had resolved to back Opposition coalition NASA.
“There is no way we can be duped to vote for Mutua again. He sidelined Mavoko immediately we voted him as governor in 2013. Why is he reaching out to us for votes now?” a resident wondered.
Mutua has since linkedlinked his ordeal to Wiper Party and his political rivals.
The outspoken governor is facing stiff competition from former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti, who is seeking to unseat him on a Wiper Party ticket.
Mutua will be defending his seat on his Maendeleo Chap Chap party ticket.
