Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has called on the newly elected Kamba leaders to unite and push the region’s development agenda forward.
Mutua says that it is it time for the region to stand up and be counted in terms of development.
Speaking to journalists after being sworn in as a governor for the second term at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Thursday, Mutua said that Ukambani has lagged behind on development because of petty politics, backbiting and blackmail among its leaders.
“I want to ask my fellow leaders who have been given leadership responsibilities by Ukambani people to stand up for unity,” he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
Governor Mutua said that unity is key if the region is to rise up in terms of development.
Mutua appealed to newly elected leaders not to propagate selfish and personal politics but rather offer service to locals wholeheartedly.
The Maendeleo Chapa Chap (MCC) party leader said that he will work with elected leaders across Ukambani to bring change and development.
There has been rivalry between some Kamba leaders who have been blaming each other for the poor state of development in the region
Ukambani region overwhelmingly voted for the opposition in the recently concluded general election.
However, a section of Kamba politicians who lost in the polls has pledged to work with Jubilee government.
Led by rebel politicians who decamped from Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper party, the politicians said that the opposition has nothing to offer the community.
