This is in a bid to safeguard the lives of drivers and passengers from the floods being experienced countywide after several rivers broke their banks.

On his Facebook account, Mutua said after River Athi broke its banks, more rivers are expected to follow suit hence urged residents to stay safe.

Mutua urged drivers to avoid the highway as much as possible citing that ‘Wajuaji' drivers who will be found traversing closed roads will be locked.

“The expected ‘wajuaji' drivers who will try to cross closed roads will be arrested and locked up for their own good and that of their passengers," he wrote.

Due to the ongoing rains two bridges Bridge 39 and Kasuitu have been carried away in the region.

Mutua disclosed that the county's emergency rescue team is on the ground evacuating people affected by the floods.

“More than 50 people have been evacuated in Green park estate among them children, house helps and the elderly," Mutua posted on his Facebook page.
