Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has expressed disappointment with the Members of Parliament (MPs) for rejecting Monica Juma who had been nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta for the position of Secretary to the Cabinet.

Speaking at Machakos Girls High School on Tuesday, Mutua said that the MPs rejection of Juma was unfair.

Mutua said that the MPs reasons for rejecting Juma were not satisfactory and that she should have been approved for appointment.

“We are not happy by what the MPs did when they rejected our only daughter. Their reasons for her rejection did not add up,” said Mutua.

The Machakos governor said that Juma’s rejection was based on her hard stand on key issues.

He added that Juma’s rejection is a blow and that the government would have benefited from her experience if she was to be approved as Secretary to the cabinet.

Governor Mutua urged MPs to be guided on principles and not personal issues when conducting issues and activities of national importance.

Monica Juma’s nomination was rejected by the National Assembly on Thursday last week.

The MPs rejected her on the basis of a letter she is said to have written to Members of Parliament asking them to stop using her office to seek favours.

The MPs were angered by the letter hence rejecting her nomination.

Meanwhile, a section of Jubilee MPs have defended their move to reject Juma saying that she was not fit to hold the position.

Speaking to journalists at Parliament Buildings on Tuesday, Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a defended the rejection of the nominee stating that the nominee had unquestionable integrity.

“We do not regret our decision because we feel that the nominee has integrity issues that have not been ascertained. We didn’t want to approve someone whose integrity is questionable,” said the Thika lawmaker.
