Kalonzo Musyoka’s backyard and specifically Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua is the reason he won’t make it as NASA candidate to face Uhuru Kenyatta.
The support that Mutua has in Machakos county and beyond coupled up with his decision to support UhuRuto are among the unnecessary obstacles in the way of Kalonzo’s journey to State House.
The fact that Dr. Mutua can be given a second rein as Machakos governor without Musyoka’s blessings paints the latter as a prophet who is not fully accepted at home. This scenario is only healthy when quoting the Holy Book but lethal in political circles especially in Kenya.
Musyoka can be opposed and whoever does so in Ukambani has a chance of being elected something that is mostly a dream in Luo Nyanza, Rift Valley and Central Kenya. If you oppose Raila Odinga, Uhuru Kenyatta or William Ruto and you come from Bondo, Eldoret or Gatundu then be ready for a defeat regardless of your opponent. Kalonzo needs Mutua's support to boost his bargaining power in NASA.
However, Mutua should be cautious because outscoring your master is one of the smoothest routes to an ugly demise in politics. As Kalonzo falls and breaks, Mutua will drawn without a life saver.
