Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has launched a free 'mabati' roofing project in a bid of replacing grass thatched houses in the entire county.

Mutua said the Sh50 million worth project is expected to improve quality of housing across the county alongside promoting rainwater harvesting to save residents from acute water shortage which they experience frequently.

“My plan is to make Machakos County the most modern region in our country. My priorities are water, infrastructure, energy, housing industrialization, education and many more are part of the new thinking and formula I am ploying,” Mutua posted on his official Facebook page on Wednesday.

The governor said these were some of his promises to the locals during the 2017 campains period.

Mutua's critics have, however, criticised the initiatives terming them as mere media public relations.

They have branded him a 'PR governor'.

Mutua prides himself on being the 'best' performing governor although a recent research proved otherwise.

“Rolling back poverty requires focused and practical action that changes lives, this is what we are doing today. This is, after all, is what Maedeleo Chap Chap ideology is all about,” Mutua said.
