Speaking in an interview on Milele Radio on Thursday, Mutua ridiculed Kalonzo's snub of the event arguing he decided to run away rather than run beside the former Prime Minister.

''The running- mate word seems to have gained a new meaning, to some people. It now means running away from inauguration events,'' Mutua said.

Kalonzo deputized Raila in the August 8,2017 presidential elections.

The event which took place at Uhuru Park in Nairobi, was as well avoided by the NASA co-principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula.

The trio later re-emerged citing house arrests by the police and strategies as the reasons behind their absence.

However, Mutua now maintains that Kalonzo deliberately skipped the event, despite an earlier promise to NASA's supporters that he would be there, terming the same as reason enough for Kenyans to disregard his leadership.

Mutua who has since announced his candidature for presidency in the 2022 polls, now says he is ready to take over as the kingpin of the Kamba community arguing that Kalonzo is not suited for the position.

''Kenyans want leaders who stand for something and have a firm position and not individuals who cannot stand by their words. This is why they have approached me and asked me to lead them as the President, a request i have accepted,'' Mutua said.
