Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has exuded confidence that the court will throw out a petition challenging his re-election.

Speaking to journalists moments after taking to the stands a witness in a petition filed by former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti at the Machakos Law Courts on Tuesday, governor Mutua said that his re-election in last year’s general election was genuine contrary to the petitioner’s claims.

Mutua said that he is not worried about the petition and that his resolve is to continue providing services to Machakos people.

“I am confident that the court will upheld my re-election because I won genuinely and I will not be dragged into petty issues my critics are propagating,” he told journalists.

Mutua urged his supporters not to worry assuring them that everything will turn out positive. Governor Mutua  at the same time warned propagandists who are using the petition to soil his name on social media.

He said that no one as a right to speculate false information about him or his government.

Mutua won re-election in the August 8 polls defeating his close rival Wavinya Ndeti who was contesting the seat on a Wiper Party ticket.

Mutua according to the results announced by the IEBC garnered 238,405 votes against Ndeti’s 199,257.

Ndeti filed the petition against Mutua  claiming that the governor who is serving his second term  win was not genuine as there were massive irregularities in the election.

The hearing of the petition is ongoing at the Machakos Law courts before trial Judge Aggrey Muchelule.

Governor Mutua’s petition is among others  whose hearing and ruling is being watched and waited with baited breath across the country.
