Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua on Tuesday morning met the European Union long term Election Observers team, ahead of the August 8 polls.

Led by Barbara Lidia Szlefarska and Bogdan Gabriel Matasuru, they discussed the ongoing campaigns and the importance of free and fair coverage of elections and campaign rallies.

Mutua who is seeking re-election, lamented to the officials, his concerns that his opponents, WDMP-K's Wavinya Ndeti, and independent Candidate Bernard Kiala, were allegedly engaging in electoral malpractices.

He also shared with them that he had received reliable information that his opponents were working on strategies to try and rig the elections in their favour.

They however agreed that the voice of the people should be respected.
