Speaking at a burial ceremony in Kathangari, Embu County on Tuesday, Mutua said the decision was arrived at after evaluating President Kenyatta's first term performance.

Mutua termed it a success, staying that the Jubilee government deserved a second term and more time to complete some of its unfinished development initiatives.

''The move was informed by the need for continuity of programs which he had initiated, specifically, the Standard Gauge Railway,'' the county chief is quoted by Citizen Digital.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader and founder, who has since announced his ambition to succeed the President in the forthcoming 2022 elections endorsed his bid.

Mutua promised to review the country's expenditure, claiming that a huge chunk of revenue was being misused.

Coming at a time when the government employees are accused of perpetuating corruption and abuse of power, Mutua vowed to reverse the situation should Kenyans give him the green light.

''It is high time that people took demands for accountability a notch higher to redeem the image of our public service,'' Mutua said.

Mutua is likely to face Deputy President William Ruto in the contest.
