There was a standoff in a Machakos high court when lawyers in a petition case filed by Wavinya Ndeti against the election of Dr. Alfred Mutua as Machakos governor clashed.

The argued ensued when lawyer Waweru Gatonye for the governor tried to defend Dr. Mutua over the allegations that county government workers participated in the August polls on the side of the governor.

A lawyer for  Wavinya Willis Otieno told the court that county government workers were hired as agents for the governor through his MCC party which Dr. Mutua dismissed arguing that he had already issued a circular prohibiting any of his public officers not to engage in the polls.

But Mr. Otieno said there was enough evidence that some of the county government workers served as agents and chief agent of the governor during the August 8th polls something which Waweru Gatoney objected vigorously.

Justice Aggrey Muchelule had to intervene severally to avert the tough exchange between the two lawyers.

Equally, Mr. Otieno put it to dr Mutua that resources from the county government like vehicles were used to campaign for him something which dr Mutua denied as well.

Another lawyer for Wavinya Mr. Martin Gitonga told the court that 59 agents for MCC party belonging to Mutua were employees of the county government something which the governor also objected.

The hearing of the case continues.
