The Machakos county boss Dr Alfred Mutua has been asked by the Wiper Party to show cause in writing within seven days as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him and to effect his resignation from the party, failure to which he stands a chance of losing his seat.
In a letter addressed to the governor and signed by Wiper Party's Secretary General senator Omar Hassan, Wiper accuses the governor Mutua alongside other rebels of making statements and conducting themselves in contravention of the Political Parties Act 2011.
Alongside Mutua, six other leaders who defected from the party have been furnished with the same show-cause letters by the party's pioneer Kalonzo Musyoka who seems to be following in the footsteps of his Cord colleague Raila Odinga.
“By resolution of the NEC meeting of November 2, 2016 and pursuant to Section 14 (7) of the Political Parties Act and Article 29.3 of the Wiper Democratic Movement constitution, we hereby give you notice to show cause in writing within seven days addressed to the chairperson of the Party Disciplinary Committee ... as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against you and to effect your resignation from the party,” read the letter signed by Secretary General Hassan Omar and seen by Standard states.
The defectors will face disciplinary action which includes expulsion that may lead to losing their seats if they fail to respond to the letter within the ultimatum given.
