Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has urged Kenyans to embrace politics of inclusivity and shun leaders who play the ethnic card to ascend to power.
Mutua said leaders should be elected on the basis of their development track record, and not empty rhetoric of tribal and ethnic allegiance.
In a phone interview with this writer, the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader reaffirmed his resolve to offer his candidature for the presidency after serving his second term as the Machakos County boss.
“I am ready to run for the presidency and give Kenyans visionary leadership without discrimination. I will seek to expand the development legacy that will have been established by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his predecessor, Mwai Kibaki,” Mutua said.
Last week, the governor toured Nyeri County on a bench marking tour where he interacted freely with residents in his three-day visit.
At one point, former Mukurweini MP Muhika Mutahi and Governor Mutahi Kahiga urged Mutua to ‘seek a higher office’ after doing his final term as governor.
“Mutua is a visionary leader whose development record is evident to all. I urge him to run for a higher office come 2022 and we in Central Kenya will back him,” Muhika said.
Governor Kahiga described Mutua as a performer with no tribal garbage hanging on his neck.
“Huyu kijana ako safi kabisa. Hana ukabila, na upande wa Maendeleo mnajua yeye ni Chap Chap. (This young man (Mutua) is absolutely smart. He is not tribal, and in terms of development you know he’s swift).
