Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to endorse him as his successor in 2022.
Governor Mutua says he is fit to succeed Kenyatta in 2022.
In an interview on Milele FM on Thursday, Mutua said he has the qualities of a President and that he will pick from where Uhuru will leave in terms of development if he is endorsed for the top seat.
Mutua said it is time for the presidency seat to go somewhere else, noting that he wants to be the first Kamba politician to ascend to State House.
“I am requesting President Kenyatta to dim it fit and endorse my 2022 presidential bid because we share the same development agenda and vision for Kenyans,” Mutua said.
Mutua said he will personally approach the President and his Deputy William Ruto and seek their endorsements.
“I will approach them and even suggest for DP Ruto to deputize me in 2022 because we have a similar development blue print for this country,” he said.
The Machakos boss exuded confidence of winning the 2022 presidential election.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader at the same time ruled out any possibilities of partnering with Deputy President William Ruto or any other candidate as his deputy in the 2022 presidential election.
He said he will go alone in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I am not afraid of anyone, we will battle it out on the ballot and the best candidate will win,” Mutua added.
Mutua said his development agenda and record as governor will see him ascend to the top seat.
There have been claims that Mutua could be approached to deputize DP Ruto as 2022 succession politics starts to play out.
Ruto will be flying the Jubilee Party ticket as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) he signed with President Uhuru Kenyatta who is serving his second and final term.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and former Governor Peter Munya are among top politicians who have declared interest in the 2022 presidential seat.
