Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua stands a better chance of retaining, TIFA opinion polls have indicated.

The county boss is 59 per cent popular, while Wavinya Ndeti of Wiper party would garner 35 per cent.

In the senatorial race, 59 per cent of Machakos residents are still undivided on whom to vote for in the forthcoming general elections.

This is after Senator Johnson Muthama opted not to defend his seat.

29 per cent are still undecided on the choice of woman rep, while 31 per cent said that they would vote for Joyce Kameme Kasimi of Wiper if elections were held today.

In the meantime, Machakos Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala dropped out of the governorship race.

The politician said that he decided to leave the race to ensure that National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate, Raila Odinga ascends to power after the August general election.

The departure of Kiala makes the governorship contest a two horse race. Both Mutua and Ndeti have remained upbeat that they will win the seat.

Mutua is banking on his performance scoreboard to beat Ndeti. On her part, Ndeti is depending on the support of Wiper and her record as well to unseat the incumbent governor.
