Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has blasted NASA leader Raila Odinga’s over his call for a fresh presidential election.
Addressing Machakos town residents on Tuesday, the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader asked Raila to stop creating political anxiety, panic, and fear in the country.
He said that the election period ended and that elected leaders must settle down and serve the people instead of being engaged in endless political games.
The Machakos Governor said that it will be hard for President Uhuru Kenyatta's government to deliver if NASA continues to create fear and anxiety in the name of reforms.
Mutua said that continued politicking is not healthy for the country’s development agenda.
“I hear they (Raila) are now calling for a fresh presidential election, which is absurd because the election period ended last year with president Kenyatta's re-election,” he said.
Governor Mutua warned that the country's economic stability is likely to suffer if some politicians are allowed to continue creating anxiety and panic.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap governor asked Raila and opposition politicians to relax and wait for the 2022 general election.
“The 2022 general election is not far and the best thing Raila and his allies could do is to wait for that time instead of confusing Kenyans who want to move on," he said.
On Wednesday, Raila in an interview with the BBC said that one of their (NASA) agenda is to push for fresh presidential election to be conducted in August.
Raila, who took oath as the people’s president last week, said that their reforms agenda is broad, assuring supporters of their commitment to liberate the country.
The Raila led National Super Alliance is set to hold the people's assembly national convention later this month as it pushes for electoral reforms and justice.
