On his Facebook page, Mutua indicated that his government will initiate a Honey Production program alongside other ongoing Agricultural Programs in Machakos County.

"My government will ensure 10 beehives in a household for the targeted 100,000 households from the next financial year," Mutua posted.

"This is part of my government's agenda of fighting poverty by increasing household incomes," he added.

Mutua calculated the earnings that can be reserved from the program.

He said the program will pump Sh5 billion of extra income to his  Machakos residents annually.

"Currently, there is massive shortage of honey in the world and even if every person in Kenya produced honey, the amount produced would not meet the demand," Mutua said.

Mutua said the initiative between the Hive Group and his government will see that farmers receive extensive training on modern Bee Keeping using CAB Hives that are specifically designed for African bee.
