Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has dismissed the endorsement of Machakos governor Alfred Mutua for presidency in 2022.
Governor Mutua was endorsed for Presidency on Saturday at the Machakos People's Park by Ukambani elders.
But speaking on Sunday, Senator Mutula termed the endorsed as "inconsequential", accusing governor Mutua of attempting to undermine Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka in the battle for the control of Ukambani politics.
"The landscape in 2022 will not be as simple as the endorsement. His bid will appear to challenge Kalonzo's stab at presidency but the jury is still out on the current storm," he said.
Mutula's sentiments were reiterated by Yatta MP Fancis Mwangangi and his Kathiani counterpart Robert Mbui, who claimed that Mutua's "rushed endorsement" seeks to rejuvenate his dwindling political fortunes.
"Mutua has simply panicked over the huge challenge he is facing from Wavinya (Ndeti) because he has sensed that he will be defeated in the gubernatorial race on August 8," Mwangangi noted.
