The governor of Machakos County Dr Alfred Mutua has been criticized by the county youth leaders for promising jobs to youths that have been long overdue.
Speaking on Friday afternoon in Mwala sub-county, two youth leaders Festus Kalii and Musila Kimeu condemned the governor for giving residents false hope.
Kalii complained mainly about the Fruit Factory that the governor had promised would be constructed in Mwala but nothing has begun yet.
"There has been a lot of promises from our governor under the Maendeleo Chap Chap movement but as the youth, we haven't gotten any employments.
Some of the residents have planted a lot of fruits in hope for the fruits factory but no signs of the factory construction is on the site as stated two months ago," said Kalii Musila.
On the other hand, stated that funds totalling to almost Sh500 million budgeted for the last two financial years for the youth, disabled and women groups funding had not been released by the devolved government.
"The funds that are supposed to be issued to Machakos Social Empowerment board to help women, the elderly and youth have not been given in the last two financial years consecutively," said Musila.
The youth has urged the county government to take into consideration and act urgently in ensuring financial support to the youth.
The governor of Machakos a few months ago travelled abroad and came back with great promises of employment for the youth soon and a fruit factory that was set to begin immediately following agreements with a Japanese Company.
