Governor Alfred Mutua's move to host his Nyeri counterpart Mutahi Kahiga is being seen by scores of political pundits as an attempt to project national leadership ahead of 2022 presidential politics.
Speaking yesterday from his offices in Machakos alongside Governor Mutahi Kahiga, he portrayed himself as a substantive Kamba leader, a position that has been held by Kalonzo Musyoka.
The Wiper leader has not taken upon himself to lead an initiative aimed at reconciling the Kikuyu's and Kamba's.
This move is bound to cause great unease within Kalonzo Musyoka's inner circle who want him to run in the 2022 presidential race.
Governor Mutua has left no doubt in the minds of Kenyans that he will give the presidency a shot in 2022.
By hosting Governor Kahiga yesterday, the Machakos governor was sending out a strong message to Kalonzo's camp that he has the clout to engage in inter-communal initiatives on behalf of the Kamba community.
