The decision by Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama to handpick Borabu MP Ben Momanyi as his successor in 2022 has created divisions within the South Nyanzan County.

At several stopovers across the county on Sunday, Nyagarama, who is serving his second term, backed Momanyi albeit indirectly.

"I am aware you people know Ben. He is a good leader and I have worked with him. He is destined for greatness," said Nyagarama, in what has since been interpreted as endorsement.

Social media users differed on the suitability of Momanyi, a second term Wiper MP with some dismissing the move as 'primitive'.

George Aruasa said: "You cannot replace a non performer with another one. This old man should spare us theatrics."

On Kitutu Masaba politics WhatsApp, Sheppanard Nyakundi added: "As long as we live, nobody should impose Ben on us."

But some were enthusiastic about Momanyi, whom they claim is a champion for the impoverished in the society.

"Undermine Ben Momanyi at your own peril. He is going places and that is a reality. We are ready to work with him," said Joshua Momanyi.

The 2022 gubernatorial race debate has already colonised Nyamira residents even with ex-Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire is said to be warming up for the seat.
