The governor has said that the clashes, which have since subsided, were caused by tax collectors from Kisii County operating in Keroka, a town that lies at the border of Nyamira and Kisii counties.

"For a long time, the Nyamira County government has been collecting taxes from Keroka town, a relatively cosmopolitan town and using it to initiate development projects, adding that invasion from Kisii county led to the clashes," said Nyagarama.

He also said that he had asked the national government through county commissioners to deploy security officers to that area to restore peace.

"We have also put in place security measures to deal with any planned attack, and as a way of ending the clashes, I have proposed a sit down with officials from Kisii county to reach a amicable agreement," added Nyagarama.
