Kisumu County Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o has pledged to sanitize the county from corruption during his five years tenure.
Nyong’o spoke on Monday at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground during his inauguration ceremony where he and Dr. Mathews Owilli were sworn in as Governor and Deputy Governor respectively.
The new governor said that the County was performing below its expectation and that it had become a disappointment owing to poor leadership and deep rooted corruption experienced in the previous governorship.
Prof. Nyong’o revealed that the county had an influx of ghost workers who were receiving salaries for jobs they did not qualify to be awarded.
Corrupt officers, he said, were not going survive his tenure as he was going to conduct a forensic audit in all county offices and those found guilty of fraud brought to book.
He said his governance will spearhead environmental reforms by ensuring that proper drainage and solid waste management systems are installed in the Lake Side City.
“We will ensure we clear the ugly Kachok dumpsite by relocating it to a much safer and location. We will setup mechanisms to convert the waste into useful chemicals and fertiliser,” added Prof. Nyong’o.
The national government, he said, should ensure a conducive environment is provided so as to guarantee the success of devolution.
