The wife to Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, Judy Ojaamong, has told Anglican Church of Kenya Katakwa Diocese faithful not to forsake the governor seeking a second term in office.
Speaking during the 25th Anniversary Service for the Diocese at St John's Cathedral Katakwa, Ms Ojaamong said some politicians in the county were coining falsehoods against the governor in a bid to de-campaign him ahead of the August 8 election.
“They are full of politics of witch hunt. My appeal is for you to defend your son. As Christians we need to maintain peace during and after the election. Allow your son complete his last term,” she said.
Peace messages marked the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Church that was presided over by Makueni ACK Bishop Rt Rev Francis Mboya Matui. It was also attended by Katakwa Diocese Bishop John Okude, his predecessor Zakayo Epus, Teso South MP Mary Emase and Teso North parliamentary hopeful Lawi Mamai.
Ojaamong is facing an uphill re-election mission following a disputed ODM county nomination that was marred by accusations of vote rigging.
His closest challenger, Funyula MP Paul Otuoma claimed the vote was rigged in Ojaamong’s favour.
ODM National Elections Board Chairperson Judy Pareno ordered for a repeat of the exercise but Otuoma rejected demanding he be issued with the nomination certificate. He claimed the vote was rigged in Teso North and Teso South constituencies where he said voter turn-out was above 100 percent.
He declared running for the governor seat on an independent ticket expressing sureness he has a solid voter support-base that will enable him trounce Ojaamong during the August 8 election.
Ojaamong has been at loggerheads with Otuoma, Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba, Teso North MP Arthur Odera and Senator Amos Wako who accuse him of mismanaging county resources. He denies the allegations.
During the burial of county chief executive for Water Gregory Odeke’s father in Amagoro in March, Ojaamong challenged the four to present evidence of claims of theft of county resources directed at him
Matayos MP Geoffrey Odanga, Butula’s Michael Onyura, Nambale’s John Bunyasi and Mary Emase (Teso South) support his re-election.
