Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has dismissed plans by Kisii county senator Chris Obure to popularise the Jubilee Party in the region and said the residents are still loyal to the Orange Democratic Party.
Reacting to a question by a local journalist during his press conference on Thursday Ongwae said a majority of the residents voted overwhelmingly to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in the last election and are not ready to leave the party.
“I am the one who is on the ground and I know how popular our party is and I am sure we will be the winners come 2017 as the residents have confirmed and selling Jubilee to Kisii is next to impossible,” he added.
The governor said that most of those defecting to Jubilee have no good reason apart from fighting the current development projects that have been initiated by the county government.
The governor also said that there was a need for the residents to support Raila Odinga because he is the champion of devolution and he is behind the creation of county governments.
