Following his inauguration Kisii Governor James Ongwae is eager to fix water shortages and environmental management problems within Kisii County.

Despite progress made during his first time, Ongwae is hoping to finalize his plans.

“We are going to acquire drilling equipment to sink boreholes across the county as well as focus on completing the ongoing water projects and thereafter embark on reticulation,” the governor said as reported by The Star.

According to Ongwae he plans to work hand in hand with the Lake Victoria South Water Services Board to hasten the Sh1.5 billion water and sanitation project.

The Kisii governor is worried about current state of rivers and water springs in county which are slowly drying up.

“If this situation goes unchecked, Kisii county could soon become water scarce and thereby reverse the developmental gains we have made over the years. It requires us to make difficult decisions to conserve our environment for sustainable development and for posterity,” Ongwae added.

Should the project prove successful it will be able to supply water to Nyamataro, Nyangena, Gesonso, Jogoo, Botori and increase the supply to Kisii town CBD, Nyanchwa, Milimani, and Menyinkwa.
