Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya has said he will take the leadership baton from NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga after the 2017 general elections.

Mr Odinga has indicated that he will be a transitional President and will not seek re-election in case he wins during the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking in Mumias East constituency on Tuesday, the ODM Deputy Party leader said that he will go for the country's top seat in 2022 after Mr Odinga.

“I have told Raila that he must make sure he does not miss the target this time because he has one bullet. If he misses again, I will try my luck for the top seat because I have also supported him,” he said.

Oparanya's remarks are likely to spark internal infighting within NASA, that could hurt the outfit's bid to unseat President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Amani National Congress Deputy Party leader and Lugari MP Ayub Savula had also indicated that the outfit's Leader Musalia Mudavadi would automatically succeed Mr Odinga after 2017.
