[Photo/Vihiga News]Vihiga Governor Dr Wilber Ottichilo has officially been crowned as the Bunyore elder.The first-time governor was crowned during the Omunyore Cultural Festival held at Ebusakami primary school on Wednesday.While handing over the spear and a traditional shield as symbols of power, Luanda MP Chris Omulele vowed to support the governor in his bid to transform the county. He expressed confidence in Ottichilo's administration saying the county boss was an experienced performer and a visionary leader.Omulele further called on other stakeholders and the political class from the Bunyore community and Vihiga county at large to accord the county chief the much needed support to fulfil the promise he made to the electorates.Addressing participants the cultural festival, Governor Ottichilo pointed out the need to have a cultural centre that will house all the cultural artefacts from the main communities in the county.He said this would be used to maintain heritage and generate income."Plans are underway to have a week long Vihiga Cultural Festival that will bring together all the communities in Vihiga to showcase their cultural heritage and remind the upcoming generations of our cultural practices that should be embraced and not neglected or changed," said Otichillo.County Woman Representative Beatrice Adagala thanked the people of Vihiga for the unity and coexistence among the communities in the county through such events and promised to engage the governor on establishment of a cultural and talent centre within Vihiga.The cultural festival which came a day after the Maragoli Cultural Festival, now shifts to Hamisi with the Tiriki and Terik having their cultural festivals on December 29 and 30 respectively.
