Mandera Governor Ali Roba has outlined health, infrastructural development, and education as some of the key accomplishments that his administration has achieved in the last five years.
Mr. Roba said the health sector has improved significantly adding that his government is committed to providing quality, accessible and affordable health care to the residents.
Speaking over the weekend at a Mandera Hotel during a county dialogue forum, Mr. Roba said his administration has new hospitals and increased health workers.
The governor further said that maternal mortality rate in the county has reduced from the initial 3,785 cases to 588 within the first five years of devolution.
“We inherited 152 health workers but we currently have 883 medical workers. We have opened 63 new health facilities,” Mr Roba said.
In education, governor Roba noted that his administration has set up 216 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres and employed at least 300 teachers.
Despite the achievements, the governor noted that his government had faced several challenges that derailed development including insecurity caused by Al-Shabaab militants.
He however said the county government has put in place measures to ensure security is improved.
“Despite the insecurity challenges in our county, we have achieved our goal in the past five years and we have our eyes set on the next five years,” added the governor.
The governor further said that the county government in collaboration with the national government and the African Development Bank is constructing a Sh2.4 billion water supply system for Mandera Town.
