Governors have vowed to prioritise development projects in their first year of the political season.

Even though majority fell short of expectations in their first 100 days in office concerning their campaign pledges, their New Year message was clear that they wanted infrustructural as well as other forms of development in their jurisdictions.

They cited lack of funds for the underperformance saying most of the government's input was being held due to national politics.

On Monday, Council of Governors chairman Josphat Nanok said his counterparts in the year 2018 focus on service delivery to their people.

He said the governors will also strive to share power and resources equitably through a fair representation in various county positions.

“Through devolution, Kenya is able to spread opportunities and development to every village within her border,” Nanok said the New Year message.

“We must ensure that devolution remains the vehicle that delivers the people’s aspirations.”

Nairobi's Mike Sonko was recently ranked among the worst performers in county bosses where he came second last together with his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho.

However, critics say that the counties experienced tough times due to their heavy spending needs that were not being complemented by the national government due to unstable political temperatures.
